KTLA Los Angeles entertainment guru Sam Rubin has been tapped to host the 18th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, which will air live tonight from 8-10 PM ET/PT on the CW. The confirmed guest list includes just about every actor or actress who has been in season-long discussions for the Oscar nominations, which will have been revealed earlier in the morning. That 5:38 AM wake-up call always makes for a long day for the entertainment journos in town, but it will be especially daunting for Rubin, who will cover the noms announcement at 5:38 AM, do his regular shift on the KTLA Morning News and then host the station’s two-hour Critics’ Choice red carpet show before jumping onstage to host the ceremony. Scheduled presenters include Nina Dobrev, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Melissa Leo, Eva Longoria, Cory Monteith, Rob Riggle, Emmy Rossum, Ian Somerhalder, Octavia Spencer and Paul Wesley.

The breakout star of Glee is now ready for his next act. He’s written the screenplay for his new movie—also starring him. The actor talks about the film, his surprising groupies, and all things gay.

Some people learn how to write screenplays by taking a class. Not Chris Colfer. When he was in high school, he kept crouching down at a Borders bookstore in Fresno, Calif., where he religiously read, and re-read, a $40 copy of Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola.

“I was a huge history buff,” says Colfer,, 22. “The movie came out right at the time I was studying for my AP European History class.” By obsessing over the screenplay, “that’s how I taught myself to be a screenwriter,” he says. “I never could afford it, because it was $40. So I’d always visit it at the Borders and study the format.”

In addition to acting, Colfer wanted to pursue a writing career. During the first season of Glee, after Kurt turned him into a pop-culture phenomenon, he’d go home and work on his first screenplay. The result is Struck by Lightning, a title that refers to the fate of its central character, Carson (played by Colfer), a high-school geek who blackmails the cool kids at his school into submitting stories for his literary magazine. The movie opens in theaters on Friday.

Colfer spoke to Ramin Setoodeh about the film and all things gay.Collapse )

Naya Rivera could be the latest McKinley High graduate heading to the East Coast on Fox’s Glee.

“It would take courage, as cheesy as it sounds,” Rivera told The Hollywood Reporter at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. “There has to be some catalyst back at McKinley that really would have her realize there’s nothing left there for her.”The actress, who along with co-star Lea Michele (Rachel), has been vocal about wanting her former Cherrio to head to New York, said Santana would need a big reason to get her to leave the University of Louisville and stop hanging around McKinley to make that happen.

The likely push, she hinted, could be seeing her now ex-girlfriend, Brittany (Heather Morris), already having moved on with Sam (Chord Overstreet), with the writing on the wall between the New Directions duo since the start of season four.

In that episode, everything gets wrapped up. One door is closing for her, and she opens another one. It’s a good thing — she’s growing.Collapse )
