When: September 29 Where: Tony Duquette's Dawnridge Residence, Beverly Hills

With Victoria, B.C., heartthrob Cory Monteith as her Glee co-star and beau (magnetic couple: check) and an album in the works (multi-platform career: check), Lea Michele is well on her way to icon status. Dawnridge, the Beverly Hills estate built by the late set designer and interior decorator Tony Duquette, was the perfect backdrop on which to shoot our burgeoning Broadway-turned-Hollywood starlet. Known for interiors that appeared luxe—he painted plaster to look like leather and marble—Duquette was a master of illusion. Half a century ago, Hollywood royalty from Mary Pickford to Doris Duke revelled in the showy estate’s faux yet magnificent halls. Duquette was Liza Minnelli’s godfather, and when it comes to multi-talented performers accustomed to OTT sets, there couldn’t be a more apt lurking spirit for our star: this generation’s non-conformist beauty with a big voice. — Emily Ramshaw

On her upcoming album: "I’m beginning the process of it. I’m working with some really great writers. I definitely think that it’s a long process. You know, I don’t know when exactly that will happen, but it’s a goal of mine for sure. I want to make sure that it gets a lot of attention. But I’m beginning a very slow process."

On her tattoos and how many she has: "I think about 12. But they’re all very very very little. I have a butterfly with my mom that we got together. This heart on my finger that I got with [my] cousins, that I’m actually in the process of removing, ‘cause it didn’t take well to the red."

On her co-star Chris Colfer's new children's book The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell: "I’m reading Chris Colfer’s book right now—he’s on my show. I literally praise the ground he walks on. I think he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread, so even if I didn’t like it, I would read it a hundred times. But I think it’s so smart, I can’t wait for all of the other ones to come out."

On her personal style: "I’m very simple with clothes and I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup. I really feel like I’m the only girl who will do a photo shoot and want to take all the hair and makeup off. ‘Cause I like to let my skin breathe and you know, I’m pretty minimal in my wardrobe. I’ll do a little shop, stock up on some things, and that’s it. I mean, when I go to do events and stuff like that, I definitely feel I can bump it up. I have an amazing stylist, Estee Stanley, who is so wonderful. She always makes me feel so comfortable and beautiful in my own skin, and the dresses are just, like, extra points."

On her hot Canadian co-star and boyfriend Cory Monteith: "You know, Canada makes some great dudes, and he’s definitely one of them, just the nicest, sweetest guy in the world. I’m very lucky."
